FY2021 in brief

Several 2021 figures are withheld because the agency's reporting for the year is incomplete.

  • Police spending per resident (FY2021) withheld: Police spending per resident is 10.2x the peer median

Generated from the figures below. Every number links to its source.

Notes: spending is fiscal-year Census data; staffing and crime are calendar-year FBI data via CBI. Dollars are nominal. Definitions: orivian.ai/benchmarks/methodology#public-safety

No municipal police department reporting

Otis doesn't report crime under its own police department. Crime here is reported by another agency, such as the county sheriff, and isn't broken out for the town.

Some towns pay another government for policing, and the Census Bureau records that spending, so police spending is shown where it’s published.

About these numbers

  • The city's own published statistics may differ: CBI counts some offenses once per victim, while many cities count once per case.
  • Reported crime reflects what is reported to police and how it is recorded, not only how much crime occurs.
  • Police spending here is FY2021, the government’s fiscal year; crime, clearances and staffing are calendar year 2021.
